| The Franz Josef Area We hope you are able to spend a few days in your campervan enjoying Franz Josef. Our campervan sites are in great central locations allowing you to park up on your campervan site and enjoy what the Village of Franz Josef offers. Activities that involve flights such as Heli Hikes can be delayed if the weather is not suitable, there are plenty of activities that are not affected by weather so allow a few days in Franz Josef if possible. Franz Josef is a small town carved out of the subtropical rainforest in South Westland, New Zealand. If you like forest, nature and peaceful New Zealand towns you will enjoy Franz Josef and its surrounding area. There are plenty of free activities and walks and we can often offer discounts for guests so if you are planning to do something in Franz Josef or Fox Glacier please ask if we are able to arrange a discount. Franz Josef offers a wide range of restaurants catering for all budgets and most food preferences. Both of our campervan sites have restaurants next door, the Alice May is next to our site at 30 Cron street (Franz Josef Campervan Park), and the King Tiger is next to our site at 64 Cron street (Orange Sheep Campervan Park). The most popular activity in Franz Josef is of course the walk up to the Glacier, it is free to walk up to the Glacier. We will be happy to give you a map and directions from the campervan sites to the Glacier carpark, a 5 minutes drive from the town. You will be able to walk from the carpark to Glacier, camping in the national park is not possible. There is however far more to offer in the Glacier region than just the Glacier. Franz Josef is located approximately 5 hours from both Christchurch and Queenstown and offers a wide range of activities from bush walks, glacier walks and heli hikes to hotpools and scenic flights to name just a few: |
